Markets mixed ahead of jobs report; Bristol-Myers awaits FDA ruling

[Music] investors may stick to the sidelines today after giving back some of M they'll likely wait for Friday's all important jobs report and for the earnings season to pick up steam next week before they make any big moves another disappointing report on the housing market kept pressure on stocks Tuesday the markets closed mixed as investors continue to hope for another interest rate cut when the FED meets later this month in the end the Dow lost 40 points but the NASDAQ moved in the opposite direction adding six keep your eye on shares of Bristol Meers squib the drug maker is awaiting word from the FDA about its new experimental chemotherapy for breast cancer officials are expected to make a decision on the drug by mid October experts say if approved it could mean hundreds of millions of dollars in sales for Bristol Meyers many automakers were struggling to sell cars last month Ford says sales plummeted 21% in September compared to the same time last last year that's thanks to a sharp drop in car sales at Chrysler sales skitted more than 5% even Toyota felt some pain sales there off 4% for the month but sales at General Motors ticked slightly higher and Honda bucked the trend reporting an increase of more than 9% that's your money watch log on to cbsnews.com for more business headlines at the New York Stock Exchange I'm Alexis christoffer

Dow falls 79 on jobs jitters; RC2 recalls Thomas trains

[Music] it was more profit taking on Wall Street today as investors stuck to the sidelines ahead of the September employment report which is due out Friday the Dow lost 79 points the NASDAQ fell back nearly 18 another blow for toy maker rc2 the company is recalling toy trains given to Consumers who had a return recall Thomas and Friends toy trains because of lead paint meantime parents are being warned to watch out for recalled items on Ebay the online auction site says a random check revealed more than a 100 listings for recall Thomas Wooden Railway toys and some recalled Mattel toys eBay says it just can't police the millions of items on its site but it does offer links to the government's database of recalled items and the electronics battle with apple rages on Verizon Wireless is offering up a cell phone that looks an awful lot like the iPhone the LG Voyager features a large touchscreen a camera web browsing and email but like the iPhone it also includes a fold down Hardware keyboard and Microsoft's trying to catch up with iPod unveiling new zoom digital media players three new models are more in line with Apple's iPod one has an 80 gbyte hard drive and is slimmer than last year's Zoom that's your money watch click on cbsnews.com for more business headlines in New York I'm Alexis christopherus
