[Music] stocks staged a late day recovery as investors Shrugged off record oil prices a falling dollar and disappointing earnings news from some big banks in the end the Dow gave back just three points while the NASDAQ moved up six mortgage rates were mixed this week the average rate for a 30-year loan held steady at 6.4% the rate on a 15-year mortgage ticked up to 6.08 Walmart has done it again announcing a second round of price cuts on 15,000 items everything from Toys to coffee makers just 3 weeks ago at slashed prices up to 50% on some popular toys Walmart and other retailers are bracing for what many economists predict will be the worst holiday shopping season in 5 years just in time for the holidays Sony is slashing the price of its PlayStation 3 video game console the top-of-the-line PS3 with an 80 gig hard drive will now cost $499 that's down from $5.99 Sony is also releasing a new cheaper model the 40 gig version goes on sale next month for $3.99 but unlike other PS3s it won't be able to play games made for the PS2 that's your money watch click on cbsnews.com for more in New York I'm Alexis christopherus
