if you were one of the people who missed getting a half calf no foam tall skinny latte with legs this week well you aren't alone and it's not just because starbucks shut down for a few hours to retrain its employees the weak economy is pushing a lot of people to cut back on small pleasures from that four dollar cup of coffee to that two dollar energy bar with consumer confidence plunging and belts tightening usa today looked into this phenomenon and found more people skipping movie night trips to fast food restaurants and bottled water in favor of dvds at home packed lunches and water from the tap and this new frugality may even be trendy as pop culture guru faith popcorn put it it's cooler not to spend so more americans may learn to live without designer coffee and decide that the best part of waking up may really be folgers in your cup that's a page from my notebook i'm katie couric cbs news
