Republicans React to Bailout Plan

the American people are angry angry about the situation they find themselves in with very little control over it and I can tell you my colleagues are angry in nobody wants to have to support uh this bill but uh it's a bill that we've come to and we've worked on together uh it's an A bill uh that we believe will avert the crisis that's out there we're certainly hopeful it will avert the crisis that's out there U when we stood up and blocked uh the so-called deal last week we did so because we didn't think taxpayers were being protected and over the course of the last three days a number of our members led by Eric caner and Paul Ryan uh really did craft an alternative uh that made a giant Improvement in the final product uh that we're going to be looking at and I think that if you step back and look at this bill it's a bill that uh that does entail risk taxpayer risk but I think what you what you see is we've reduced the amount of taxpayer risk in this bill considerably and if you look through the entire uh bill when you get to the end of it if after 5 years the the taxpayers uh have in fact lost any money uh it really requires us to go to those who benefited from this bill uh and to recoup that money and so at the end of the day there really are no taxpayer funds at risk here but we do know what is at risk today and that's our economy uh that's why we're supporting this bill uh We've urged our colleagues to support this bill we had a long conversation uh with our members because uh they've got concerns uh they want to do the right thing on behalf of their constituents and they want to do the right thing on behalf of their country that doesn't always mean the word yes the word we're looking for uh but we're working with our members um and and want them to support this because it is the right thing to do for our country
